“The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable.”― Robert Henri
Scott views art as a means of communication, a way to visually express ideas using God's gift of creativity.
Scott currently works almost exclusively in oil on panel or canvas preferring to paint a variety of subjects in a “painterly” way. He prefers to present his interpretation of a subject rather than a photorealistic recreation of it.
Scott graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In the early 1990’s he studied oil painting with Shirley Pharris (American Society of Portrait Artist member) of Hermitage, Tennessee and later with Mary Veazie (a member of the National Portrait Society, American Impressionist Society, and the Oil Painters of America) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Scott has attended oil painting workshops with Jennifer Gennari (2022), Victoria Kalaichi (2023), Mia Bergeron and world renown artist Daniel E. Greene.
He has been influenced by many different artists beginning with his mother Carol Ann (Rivenes) Emrick, others include: John Singer Sargent, Diego Velasquez, Michaelangelo, Frank Frazetta, and the lectures of Artist/Teacher Robert Henri.
In 2022 Scott began a partnership with the Church Street Gallery in Murfreesboro Tennessee creating pet portraits for clients.
Scott resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife/best friend of over 30 years.
